VISUAL TRACKING: This refers to the ability to move our eyes accurately, smoothly and efficiently. Visual Tracking skills allow us to accurately move from word-to-word and line-to-line while reading. Also, visual tracking skills are important in athletics because they allow us to keep our "eyes on the ball".
Visual Tracking consists of three main components: • FIXATION: The ability to accurately aim our eye at the object of interest. • PURSUITS: The ability to smoothly follow an object in motion, such as a ball. • SACCADES: The ability to accurately shift fixation from one object to another, such as from one word to another, or from the end of one line to the beginning of the next line of print.
POSSIBLE INDICATIONS OF A TRACKING PROBLEM: - Inability to follow objects smoothly - Reading Problems Skipping words Rereading words Reversals Nystagmus-regular, rapid, involuntary movement or rotation of the eyes.
